Report: School Librarian Meets His SAXON Idols

February 2, 2007

Sheffield Today reports that a 47-year-old school librarian by the name of Shaun Case (photo) won backstage passes to meet his idols SAXON — thanks to the paper. Case also got tickets for him and son, Nick, 14, to see the band at Sheffield City Hall.

"It might come as a bit of surprise to some people, but I love loud heavy metal music. I've been a fan for years. They're great — just normal lads," said Shaun, of Stocksbridge.

Their meet-and-greet was filmed by Channel 4 for a documentary about the band, which is due to be broadcast in April. It was a homecoming concert for SAXON, which began life as SON OF A BITCH, when they formed in Barnsley in 1976.

Founding member Peter "Biff" Byford, on vocals, and guitarist Paul Quinn, are now joined by drummer Nigel Glockler, bassist Nibbs Carter and guitarist Doug Scarratt.

As previously reported, three short video clips of SAXON performing at Sheffield City Hall in Sheffield, United Kingdom on January 26 have been posted online at YouTube.com. A review of the show and several pictures are available on the band's official forum.

SAXON frontman Biff Byford was interviewed by a British TV station about the group's world record attempt in a new category — the largest-ever air guitar ensemble — at Sheffield Wednesday's Hillsborough ground in the United Kingdom on January 20. Watch the interview online at YouTube.com.

SAXON will release its new album, "The Inner Sanctum", in Europe on March 5 (Germany: March 2, U.S.: April 3) via SPV Records.

"The Inner Sanctum" will be available as a digipack with a bonus DVD and as a jewel case, featuring a bonus track.
